The Rodney Ems Memorial Golf Scholarship recently announced four Durango High School seniors are the recipients of its annual scholarship program for 2023. The scholarship recognizes both academic and athletic achievements of students pursuing higher education, and each of the four recipients will receive a $3,500 scholarship.

Nicholas Best, Eliza Bosmans, Zayda Mestas and Natasha Walcott were all awarded the scholarship after demonstrating a dedication to academic success, strong leadership qualities and service to the community.

“The Rodney Ems Memorial Golf Scholarship is proud to recognize these four exceptional student-athletes for their academic and athletic achievements,” said Jessica Obleton. “We are confident that they will continue to excel in their academic pursuits, make a positive impact in their communities and maintain their love of the game.”

Best will be pursuing a degree in architecture at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He plans to play club golf and keep improving his game. He is looking forward to keeping a strong work ethic and a drive for success while he starts this exciting new chapter of his life.

Mestas will be pursuing a degree in biochemistry with a minor in psychology at the Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls. She is excited to continue her golf career at the collegiate level, competing for the Owls.

Walcott will be pursuing a degree in accounting at Metropolitan State University in Denver. In playing golf and being a student, she has learned perseverance is the foundation of success. She looks forward to continuing her education and her lifelong venture in golf.

The Rodney Ems Memorial Golf Scholarship was established in honor of Rodney Ems, a passionate golfer and avid community supporter. Ems believed in the power of education and the values that golf instills. The scholarship is open to student golfers who are seniors from a Colorado high school in the Four Corners. Applicants need to demonstrate their love of the game of golf and how it has had an impact on their lives.
