Delta had a few lessons to hand down to the Durango High School wrestling team Friday night.
The Panthers handled the Demons 64-7. The only two wins for DHS in the dual came at 182 pounds, where Patrick Cunnion earned an 8-1 decision, and at 120 pounds, where Tristan Martinez picked up a 14-2 major decision.
“Rough night for the Demons,” DHS head coach John Gurule said. “Delta is a tough team.”
DHS had to deal with some injuries, including to 126-pound senior Matthew Lavengood, who was injured during practice earlier in the week.
The Demons will stay in Delta overnight to participate in the Delta Duals Tournament on Saturday.
“We gotta turn it around (Saturday) and go out and work for what we can and try to get better,” Gurule said. “It’s all practice for us until regionals, and the positive note from (Friday) was everyone went and gave it their best effort. It wasn’t our night, but we’ll turn it around.”
