Durango High School senior Brooke Buccowich recently founded a community service program, “Share the Light,” to increase youth suicide awareness and help fund youth suicide prevention.
Suicide is the leading cause of death for young people 10-24 years old in Colorado.
To access a 24-hour hotline for talking or text help, call (844) 493-8255 or text TALK to 38255. Posters with the contact information have been displayed at Durango High School, Fort Lewis College and various establishments in Durango.
Also, lamps purchased from ReLove, Consign & Design, 1301 Florida Road, will help support youth suicide prevention.
Funds contributed to Share the Light will go to nonprofit Second Wind Fund.
