DHS students are off-the-charts great

On Thursday, Sept. 20, I had the pleasure of volunteering at the Community Foundation’s annual “Community Taste” event. This is the second year that I have done so. It is always an extraordinary evening enjoyed by many. For the past two years, I have worn the “Kitchen and Buffet Line Captain” hat. My responsibilities are always very enjoyable because of the “crew” that I am extremely fortunate and blessed to work with.

The DHS Student Council Members, under the thoughtful care and direction of their advisor, Dale Garland, are my rock star crew! These young men and women are the epitome of responsible youth. In an age when teens are often labeled as “narcissistic device mongers,” the DHS Student Council members are anything but! The are an absolute delight to work with, emulating responsibility, kindness, genuineness, respect, impeccable work ethic, humor, and the list goes on!

Dale Garland and the parents of these outstanding students should be beaming with pride at a job well done. There were many in attendance at the event who stopped me to express their appreciation for this great group of young adults. Even one of the guys from the establishment staff said, “Wow! Where did they get these fabulous kids from?” I was quick to respond, “I know! Don’t I have a great crew? They are on the DHS Student Council and they are outstanding youth for sure!”

I am already looking forward to next year’s “Community Taste”!
