DHS tennis can’t cut down Central

Grand Junction Central typically provides a pretty good measuring stick in the world of girls tennis.

On Friday, the Warriors set the bar a little too high for Durango High School.

DHS lost 6-1 at Grand Junction Central, picking up a victory at No. 1 doubles.

The Durango duo of Rachel Redders and Anna Wright picked up a hard-fought win over Amber Jack and Bryce Lambert. The DHS tandem split the first two sets 4-6, 6-1, then won the tiebreaker 10-7 in lieu of a third set.

Durango nearly pulled out a win in a similarly tight matchup at No. 2 doubles. Marta Caneda and Ellie Driscoll outlasted Durango’s Hannah Lieberman and Jenni Snowberger 4-6, 7-5, 10-5, however.

Sarah Harrelson suffered a similar fate at No. 2 singles, falling to Keira Trujillo 6-4, 2-6, 10-5.

Hannah Keeling downed Erin Neale at No. 1 singles 6-3, 7-5, and Abby Bridgett topped Durango’s Kit Hackett 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.

Jade Poeppel and Stacey Barragan topped Durango’s Audrey Morris and Rachel Cooper 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles, while Central’s Leandra Medrano and Tori Bryant outlasted Ellen Campbell and Tyllor Ledford 6-0, 6-0.
