DHS volleyball dropped by a 2-win (SWL) Tigers team

The Durango High School volleyball team came close but not close enough in a 3-0 loss Friday at Grand Junction.

The Tigers topped the Demons 25-21, 25-22 and 25-20 to drop DHS to 9-8 overall and 5-3 in the Southwestern League.

Bella Bernazzani led the Demons with eight kills to go with seven by Laura Lieb. Gabi Razma and Logan Clark had seven digs apiece, while Clark added 19 assists.

Berkeley Davis, who had six blocks to lead DHS, said Durango just didn’t have its typical level of intensity against Grand Junction, which won just its second SWL match of the year to move to 9-9 overall and 2-7 in the SWL.

“Honestly, Junction showed up to play (Friday). They showed up to fight, and we obviously didnt,” the senior said. “We played pretty sloppy.”

When Durango did get itself in gear, it often came too late to make up the ground it had ceded to the home side.

“When our intensity was finally up and our game was on, we were trying to play catch-up at that point,” Davis said.

The Demons will play Montrose at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
