Different team, same result for former FLC head coach Kellogg

Bentley tops West Texas A&M in NCAA Division II women’s title game
Devin Griffin and the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs couldn’t deliver head coach Mark Kellogg a Division II national championship Friday in Erie, Pa.

Mark Kellogg’s West Texas A&M team couldn’t get the former Fort Lewis College women’s basketball head coach over the championship hump Friday.

West Texas A&M fell 73-65 to Bentley on Friday night in the NCAA Division II women’s basketball national championship game in Erie, Pa.

The game was tied 24-24 at halftime, but Bentley did enough to secure the win in the second half. Courtney Finn led Bentley with 21 points thanks to 12-of-12 shooting from the free-throw line.

Devin Griffin led West Texas A&M with 20 points on 9-of-18 shooting. She was the only Lady Buffs player to score in double digits.

Kellogg, a Dallas native, led the FLC Skyhawks to the national title game during the 2009-10 season. The Skyhawks lost that game 65-53 to Emporia State, It was the best finish in FLC women’s basketball history.

This was Kellogg’s first season coaching the Lady Buffs.

He spent time at Northwest Missouri State between FLC and West Texas A&M.

Kellogg went 173-46 as a head coach of the Skyhawks from 2005-12. He was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Coach of the Year three times during that span.
