Disabled veterans property tax exemption now taking applications

A property tax exemption is available for tax year 2021, affecting taxes payable in 2022, for 100% of service-disabled veterans and surviving spouses of those who previously qualified.

Veterans must have owned and resided on the property as their primary residence as of Jan. 1 of the year applied. Fifty percent of the first $200,000 of actual value of the primary residence is exempt. The state will fund the exemption for tax year 2021.

Once approved, the exemption remains on the individual’s account. Applicants should not reapply.

To receive an application, contact Colorado Department of Military & Veteran’s Affairs at 245-0782. The application deadline is July 1.
