To the Editors of the Tri City Record,
I write with deep concern about recent Supreme Court decisions that appear to expand presidential power beyond constitutional limits. The grant of immunity to Donald Trump suggests that a president may act without accountability – even when those actions threaten our democracy. This undermines the principle that no one is above the law.
I urge the Court to overturn this immunity and revisit Citizens United, which opened our elections to dark and foreign money. These decisions distort our democratic process and weaken public trust.
The Supreme Court is one-third of our constitutional balance. When Congress fails to act and the executive overreaches, the judiciary must protect the Constitution. I’ve long believed the Court was our last bastion of justice. I’m profoundly disappointed in its current direction.
As a blue voter in a red county, I ask my neighbors to consider what unchecked power means for all of us. Democracy depends on accountability, transparency, and the rule of law.
Respectfully,
Roberta Summers
