DISH, the satellite television company, announced Friday that it has launched the Denver-based network affiliates of ABC (KMGH) and FOX (KDVR) to subscribers in La Plata County.
The move brings Colorado-based news to viewers in the county, helping them stay connected during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a news release issued Friday by DISH.
Local, state and federal elected officials called on broadcasters this week to reach a temporary agreement to allow Denver television stations to be broadcast in La Plata County, which is considered an “orphan county” by being lumped in with New Mexico’s Nielsen market area. Officials said La Plata County residents have been missing important updates about the coronavirus pandemic in their own state, including news briefings by Gov. Jared Polis.
“As the state confronts the COVID-19 crisis, DISH is pleased to offer subscribers in La Plata County access to Colorado-based news and information,” said Jeff Blum, DISH senior vice president of public policy and government affairs. “... As always, DISH remains committed to serving the connectivity needs of our customers, and we will continue working diligently to deliver the channels our customers want at the right value.”
Denver stations ABC (KMGH) and FOX (KDVR) will be made available in La Plata County on these DISH channels:
ABC: Channel 10FOX: Channel 31DISH continues to negotiate with the remaining Denver broadcasters, KCNC (CBS) and KUSA (NBC), to reach a long-term agreement. Currently, viewers in La Plata County have access to those networks via the Albuquerque-based channels.
