Disturbed and frightened by ‘disappeared’ migrants

An article (Herald, May 15) on the arrest of five people at work at the local business, Rock Solid, sent a chill through me. A subsequent article (Herald, May 20) on the raid noted that officials in our community are not able to get any information about these detentions – it feels like the disappearances you read about in countries with brutal dictators, and it disturbs and frightens me.

Thanks for the editorial (Herald, Jun. 1) pointing out that this not the sort of raid that most Trump voters thought they were voting for. There is no mandate locally or nationally to deport valuable members of our communities, documented or not. Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement should be putting their time and resources into finding and prosecuting – with due process – actual criminals who are a threat to our communities, not easy targets simply to meet deportation quotas.

With this action, ICE sowed chaos and trauma for these families and our whole community. I urge Rep. Hurd and Sens. Bennet and Hickenlooper to do all they can to reverse this policy of deporting migrants whose only offense is being undocumented.
