John L. Smith brought in a diverse class geographically – both by cities and by positions – for his second recruting class at Fort Lewis College.
The Skyhawks signed 13 players Wednesday from five different states across eight different positions.
FLC announced that it received 13 letters of intent during Wednesday’s national signing day, including one from Durango High School (Isiah Mayberry), and two from DHS (Caleb Lloyd, Westly Moore) who have yet to send in their letters of intent.
Four of the Skyahwks’ commitments play defensive or offensive line.
Jared Adkins (Brighton), Chris Haas-Alicea (Mesa, Ariz.) and Blake Jacobs (Highlands Ranch) will man the offensive line, while Jacob Crosby (Grand Junction) will fill the defensive trenches.
The Skyhawks also will bring in three linebackers, two tight ends, two wide receivers, a defensive back and a running back.
Mayberry (Durango) and Cole Neubauer (Phoenix) will join the Skyhawks’ linebacking corps, while Brock Brown (Concord, Texas) can play linebacker and long snapper.
“We expect Cole to play early and a lot,” Smith said in a news release. “We expect that he is the future of our linebacker corps.”
FLC also added two big tight ends that can help both its passing and running game: AJ Shaw (Denver) weighs in at 6-2 and 230 pounds, while Keenan Hamilton is 6-3, 220 pounds.
Tyler Wilson (Rio Rancho, N.M.) recently shifted from the quarterback position. Wilson was selected as a National Underclassman Combine Wide Receiver MVP and NUC top prospect.
Brandon Zanier (Littleton) was a first-team all-conference wide receiver at Chatfield High School.
“His best ability is to run after the catch and make people miss,” Smith said in a news release.
Smith expects Wes Dugger (Albuquerque) to start at nickle back in the Skyhawks’ secondary.
Gabe Ogbonnaya, Jr. (Gilbert, Ariz.) was a four-year starter at running back.
