’Tis the season, and the spirit of giving has never been felt more than now as we continue to navigate “the new normal.”
Gifting can mean different things to different people. It can be something purchased locally, or something you make yourself. I’d like you to consider giving the gift of time and creating memories. Not only does Durango have incredible, unique local retail stores, we also have an abundance of experiences and adventures you can enjoy with friends and family. Some of my favorite gifts involved creating memories with my loved ones.
Here are some ideas to give your loved ones this season. If outdoor adventure is their thing, give a day on the river with a rafting guide, ziplining with Soaring Treetop Adventures, or savor the crisp mountain air and fresh powder with lift tickets to Purgatory Resort.
Give the gift of relaxation and soak in the newly remodeled Durango Hot Springs, or a day of pampering at the Woodhouse Day Spa. Appreciate the arts during a live concert at Music in the Mountains or Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College; or give tickets for a performance at the Durango Arts Center. Savor quality time during a night out at their favorite restaurant, learning about different wines at the Durango Wine Experience, aboard the Durango & Silverton Narrow Guage Railroad or while playing the odds at the Sky Ute Casino.
Durango is fortunate to have so many spas, tours, restaurants, live concerts and excursions – you’re sure to find something for everyone, and most places offer gift cards that can be purchased and given now. Your loved ones will not only think of you as they open the gift, they’ll talk about the memories created for years to come.
Speaking of the season of giving, there is no better time than now to donate to your favorite local charity. Colorado Gives Day is on Dec. 7, but really any day in December is a great day to find a nonprofit that matches your passion. Our local nonprofits specialize in specific areas that meet the needs of those in our community and they need your help to fulfill their mission.
We’re excited to announce that the Durango Chamber of Commerce has partnered with Boys & Girls Club of La Plata County and are hosting a toy drive now through Dec. 17. Instead of the Chamber’s Business After Hours this month, we’re asking Chamber members and the community to donate new or gently used toys for local kids ages 8 to 18. Toys can be dropped off at the Durango Chamber of Commerce, 2301 Main Ave., 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can always donate directly to the Boys & Girls Club by visiting its website. This is just another way to make a difference this holiday season.
From all of us at the Chamber, we wish you a happy and healthy holiday!
