Recent travels offered up insights into today’s TV and print media mudslinging: it all seems to be cut from the same playbook, no matter your location.
How do we learn about a candidate when they only offer distortions, half-truths and outright lies about their opponent? Does this candidate have nothing to run on, or are these devious practices merely the process du jour for winning at all costs?
Here’s a thought – when a candidate hurls negative ads (often fear-based), make it your flash point for independent research. This was exactly my modus operandi when Rep. Scott Tipton’s ads went negative; it was time to peel back the onion.
I started by reading the websites of both Tipton and Diane Mitsch Bush. This alone provided a wealth of information on both candidates. Mitsch Bush’s depth and breadth on the issues, and an array of formidable endorsements, quickly distinguished the two candidates. Most enlightening, Bush even received accolades from across the aisle.
Have you reached the choke-point for divisive politics? I have. The U.S. House of Representatives needs someone like Mitsch Bush: smart, inclusive to all ideas, and capable of uniting, not dividing.
I am a registered independent and strive to vote the person, not the party. Through my extensive homework, all arrows point to Diane Mitsch Bush.
If you are undecided, do your research. If you are weary of politics in general and debating whether to even vote – I beseech you to do it – you can and will make a difference.
