Dog training classes offered at the rec center

The Durango Community Recreation Center is partnering with GentleCanine to offer new dog training classes.

The Durango Community Recreation Center is partnering with GentleCanine to offer new dog training classes. GentleCanine is a local dog training company that focuses on real-world training skills, using simple and effective science-based training methods by two nationally certified dog trainers.

The AKC S.T.A.R (Socialization, Training, Activity, Responsibility) Puppy class accepts dogs younger than age 1 and covers basic skills such as sits, downs, leash skills, and socialization, while puppy and owner work toward a S.T.A.R Puppy certification. The AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Prep program accepts dogs older than age 1 and helps to build and fine-tune appropriate manners at home and in public while working toward a CGC certificate; the class ends by taking the CGC test.

AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Classes will be offered from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Fridays, from Nov. 4 to Dec. 9 and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturdays from Nov. 5 to Dec. 10.

AKC CGC Prep Program will be offered from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays from Nov. 5 to Dec. 10.

All classes will take place in the Twilight Room.
