Dolores drops Volleycats in three games

From the Eastern Plains, Kit Carson High School is the defending Class 1A State Volleyball Champion.

Ignacio will challenge the Wildcats this Saturday, Sept. 22, out on the Eastern Plains.

Ignacio attempted to prepare for KCHS by going head-to-head Tuesday, Sept. 18, with 2017 Class 2A State Tournament qualifier Dolores. Even though the Bears lost some of their talent to graduation, they still seemed to have enough to give an Ignacio a preview of how tough their featured Simla Invitational foe likely will be.

Returning to IHS Gymnasium after losing 15-25, 9-25, 13-25 at Telluride on the 15th, the Volleycats found themselves on the short side of a nearly-identical 16-25, 9-25, 13-25 setback versus DHS.

Junior Makayla Howell managed team highs of five kills and 11 digs against Dolores, while seniors Misty Egger-Morris and recent varsity call-up Divine Windy Boy each downed three kills, according to head coach Thad Cano. Freshman Alexis Pontine also landed a team-best three aces.

Ignacio dropped to 2-6 overall, 1-4 in the SJBL prior to their Elbert County excursion. Dolores improved to 4-3, 3-1 prior to hosting Norwood on the 20th.
