Dolores man 2nd at Mr. America

Robson

Rob Robson of Dolores placed second recently in the open masters division at the 25th Musclemania Mr. America bodybuilding competition in Las Vegas.

Robson said he was very close in points to the first-place finisher in the Nov. 21-22 event.

“I thought I should have won, of course, but it didn’t turn out that way,” he said. “It was a lot of hard work but (I was) happy with the way I looked. Maybe next year.”

Competitors at Mr. America were judged on muscle mass, symmetry and conditioning, which totals 90 percent of a competitor’s score. The top five were then judged on posing, which counts toward 10 percent of their final score. Robson had hoped to make the top five; his best previous finish at the event was third.

Robson is no stranger to the bodybuilding stage. He placed fourth at Mr. Universe 2011 in Miami, finishing as the only American in the top five there. He also placed third at Musclemania Mr. America 2013.

Robson qualified for the Musclemania Mr. America after winning the Musclemania Natural Rocky Mountain Bodybuilding Championships on April 13 in Broomfield.

He next plans to enter the Mr. Universe contest in June in Miami.

Musclemania bills itself as the largest natural bodybuilding organization. Contestants found using steroids are disqualified from competitions and are unable to compete for any Musclemania titles for a minimum of two years.
