The fifth annual Dolores River Boating Advocates permit party will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Dolores Community Center.

Kevin Fedarko, author of the bestselling book The Emerald Mile, will be the guest speaker. He will discuss his latest book, Beneath the River of Shooting Stars: Misery, Obsession and Grace on the Grand Canyon.

Local bluegrass band Last Nickel will play, and there will be a silent auction with many great deals on boating and outdoor gear.

Permit information and applications for local and regional rivers will also be available.

Food and beverages will be provided by Absolute Bakery from Mancos, Dolores River Brewery, Mancos Brewery and Wildedge Brewing Collective.

Admission is $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Youths get in for $5, and kids younger than 12 get in for free.

The Dolores Community Center is at 400 Riverside Ave.
