Donate pennies to Elks for kids

I much enjoyed the story about pennies (Herald, Oct. 19). It is past time for them to be relegated to the sock drawer of history.

Readers may be interested to learn of one of the charitable endeavors of the Colorado State Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, right here in Durango at Lodge No. 507 at 901 East Second Avenue: The Clem Audin Fund collects pennies by the bucketload in order to provide assistance directly to school-aged children in need in the form of books, glasses, clothing or just about any help that can be realized by direct cash donation, and any child may apply.

Durango Lodge No. 507 would be grateful for the donation of unwanted pennies to help continue these endeavors. Please see www.coloradoelks.org/committees.cfm?ID=CAF or call the Lodge at 247-2296 for more information. Thanks!
