In response to the Herald’s April 26 endorsement of Bob Formwalt for the LPEA board because, without any clarification other than he is the incumbent and he “looks better,” as a resident of Archuleta County, we really don’t vote for people based on their looks.
If the Herald and its reporters were interested in providing its readers in Archuleta County with actual information about these candidates, you would have contacted Nicholas Kazarinoff and Formwalt, then conducted professional interviews in an effort to actually inform voters about the positions of both candidates.
Instead, you’ve chosen to dismissively gloss over Kazarinoff’s credentials without ever talking to him or reporting to us how he differs from Formwalt, or informing us of why he is running against his opponent and what he brings to the table when it comes to his views on renewable energy, including solar and geothermal, both of which reportedly are available and much cheaper than continuing to utilize fossil fuels and building new, very expensive power lines to transmit that power to us.
Locally, we’re hearing that rather than running a new power line into Pagosa Springs, we could save millions by implementing solar. Is this true or not? Are there any facts or statistics to report? Or does the Herald endorse by looks only?
Those of us who have followed our local election are very much aware of the vast differences in the views and approaches of our two candidates. Would it not behoove the Herald to do some real reporting to inform the constituency in our county of our choices rather than offering us blanket endorsements from 60 miles away without any information whatsoever as to why you’ve made them? It’s not too late. Try harder to do what you are supposed to do, and please get to work interviewing and reporting!
