People who want to participate in Durango’s first Float to Work Day but don’t have a watercraft have some options to get on the river, according to a city of Durango news release.
From 7 to 9 a.m. Aug. 25, the city of Durango is encouraging river users to commute to work from the 29th Street put-in at Memorial Park to the Ninth Street take-out at Schneider Park.
But for those who don’t own a kayak, raft, stand-up paddleboard or other floating device, the city announced Wednesday there are other options to participate.
Mild to Wild Rafting will offer a free trip to the first nine people who show up for a 7:30 a.m. launch, and $8 trips per person at 7:30, 8, 8:30 and 9 a.m., with a helmet and personal flotation device included in the price.

Four Corners River Sports will also offer free helmet and PFD rentals, as well as half-price rentals for inflatable kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. Inner tubes will be available for 30 percent off the purchase price. To make reservations for these items, call 259-3893.
There will be a free breakfast station offering snacks, coffee and tea at each park.
Participants are asked to leave cars at home. Durango Transit will provide tokens for free rides to all participants, and a free shuttle will take river runners back to Memorial Park.
This city is hoping the Animas River will be running at less than 500 cubic feet per second for the event. As of Wednesday afternoon, the river was running at 455 cfs.
