I have been vacationing in and around beautiful Durango for literally longer than I can remember (more than 45 years). My family even has a home in the area.
I have a coworker here in Austin who also vacations in the Durango area. When I asked him about his family vacation there this year he said that after 10 years of vacationing in Durango they were going to find somewhere else to go.
He said the homeless people were out of control. They were approached by them daily, sometimes even aggressively. I sure hope the city leaders plan to curtail these activities or this surely will impact the city’s tourism income if it hasn’t already.
There is a hotel in Santa Fe just a block off the plaza that I will no longer stay at due to the homeless approaching patrons on the outdoor patio, or just while walking from the car to the hotel.
Business owners can only do so much to protect their customers. Please don’t let the homeless ruin Durango for everyone else.
