Dorothy Wall "Dottie" Tassell, 87, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at home in Bayfield. Services will be held at a later date in California
Mrs. Tassell was born Sept. 5, 1926 in New York, N.Y.,the daughter of James and Anna Farrell. She grew up in New York, not far from Central Park. She married James Edward Tassell in July of 1952 in Arizona. Due to James' career as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy, the family lived in El Cajon, Calif. then they moved to Rhode Island, the Philippine Islands, back to San Diego, San Francisco, and upon Mr. Tassell's retirement to Livermore, Calif.
Dorothy moved to Gem Village in 1983, shortly after James' passing. She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bayfield. She was active in the V.F.W. Post Women's Auxiliary, Bayfield Senior Citizens Center, as well as a local Watkins representative. She babysat children for multiple friends and neighbors, and was well-known for teaching good manners.
She very much enjoyed reading, cooking and crossword puzzles. She was a gifted conversationalist and storyteller.
She is survived by her sons, James Edward Tassell, Jr. and William A. "Bill" and Shirley Tassell of Bayfield, 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, James Edward Tassell, and two sons, Martin and Alan Tassell.
