Re letter on Wednesday about the train whistle. First of all, the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is the historic cornerstone of Durango. Durango businesses, such as stores and restaurants, as well as other local tourist attractions also benefit from the appeal of the train. By the way, the whistles don’t sound “for minutes at a time” and none of the trains run at very early or late times.
My husband and I live about 75 yards from the track and love to hear the trains go by. I doubt that the majority of locals and tourists are negatively affected either. I think we’d all be happier if we focused on the positives of life, including the gift of living or visiting in our area, and the historical jewel of the D&SNGR train as it now exists.
