Downed cable blamed for Hermosa-area multi-day phone outage

Information scant on when line will be fixed

Some Hermosa-area residents are entering day three without phone service, with CenturyLink providing little to no information of when service will be restored.

According to a recorded message, CenturyLink identified a damaged cable that is affecting service, which is hampering customer’s ability to make and receive phone calls.

The recording goes on to say CenturyLink’s technicians are “working on it,” and they hope to respond to the issue “as quickly as possible.”

No CenturyLink representatives were available for comment Sunday, and customer-service employees requested The Durango Herald call back Monday.

Durango resident Bonnie Boyle, who lives on County Road 202, said her service went out on Friday. She called customer service, and a live person said the issue would be resolved by Thursday.

“Now, they’re saying they’re working on it,” Boyle said.

Boyle said she knew of other customers on County Road 202, as well as areas of The Ranch subdivision, who have lost phone service. It’s unclear how widespread the outage is.
