The work hours along the Camino del Rio construction corridor are being extended during the next few days, and drivers will continue to need to drive with care and patience.
The Colorado Department of Transportation and Concrete Works of Colorado are adding night and weekend hours to the schedule to fix the intersection signal at Ninth Street and Camino del Rio and complete work on the section from Ninth Street to College Drive.
“We may not be working all night or all weekend, but people should anticipate that we may well be out there, and lanes may be closed,” said CDOT spokeswoman Nancy Shanks.
The overall daytime weekday schedule remains the same, with all commuter lanes open before 8:30 a.m. and after 4:30 p.m., during peak periods. But during the next few days, at least, workers probably will be back out after 6:30 p.m. through the night and during the weekend.
This is a current list of impacts expected:
From the U.S. Highway 160/550 intersection to Eighth Street, the restriction of wide loads to 10 feet will end at 4:30 p.m. today.
Striping and signal work at College Drive and Camino del Rio will restrict traffic to one lane each way next week. It is likely the signal will be turned off at night, and traffic will be controlled by flaggers.
In addition to lane closures on Camino del Rio’s through lanes from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., lane closures after 6:30 p.m. and anytime during the weekend are possible.
Single-lane closures may be in effect at any time of the day or night on the side streets intersecting with Camino del Rio.
Because of the truck accident Wednesday, Ninth Street between Camino del Rio and Roosa Avenue across the Ninth Street Bridge will be closed until the signal is back to full functioning.
“The workers are doing everything they can to get out of the business area north of College Drive before Memorial Day weekend,” Shanks said. “Any project has unforeseen things, and on top of the broken gas line and truck accident, we ran into a utility line we didn’t expect. The engineers said as long was we were working there, we might as well get it in a better place.”
