Driver in Sunday crash identified, cited for reckless driving, DUI

The driver of a vehicle that went off U.S. Highway 550 on Coal Bank Pass on Sunday was cited for reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Colorado State Patrol Capt. Adam Driscoll said Thursday that Rowdy Wickman, 18, of Durango was identified as the driver. Driscoll said Wickman’s vehicle left the roadway near mile post 58 around 8:30 a.m., but he sustained only minor injuries. He was wearing a seat belt, and no other vehicles were involved.

Driscoll said it was snowing and sleeting when the crash occurred, so crews decided to wait until Wednesday to extract the Ford Fusion from the embankment.
