Drug use in schools should stop

School is where many young people experiment with drugs. They believe that doing drugs will make them cool, or they genuinely enjoy how drugs make them feel. It is shocking how easy it is to get a hold of illegal substances in schools, and this needs to end. Many students in high school are able to get a hold of drugs through other students or family members.

One such drug is Adderall. Dosomething.org says that “Adderall use (often prescribed to treat ADHD) has increased among high school seniors from 5.4 percent in 2009 to 7.5 percent this year.” This drug will often be sold illegally to other students by a student who either takes the drug or has a family member who takes it. This drug is extremely dangerous, and the selling of this drug in schools needs to stop.

Walking down the halls of my school, you can tell where the potheads are easily. The lingering smell of these kids makes you wonder if they go home smelling like this and if their parents care at all. According to eschooltoday.com, kids who learn a lot about the risks of drugs from their parents are up to 50 percent less likely to use drugs.

So why would parents not want to inform their kids and keep them safe? I am not laying the blame fully on the parents as more often than not, they cannot control what their child is doing in school. I know that my parents would be disappointed in me if I began to use any kind of drug.
