San Juan River (NM): 4,440 cfs, dropping; The San Juan is finally coming down. After about 50 days at 5,000, the flows are being dropped starting Friday. Wade fishing will become more accessable, and we can expect fish to be found all over. Look for terrestrials to begin showing up.
Animas River: 2,800 cfs, falling and clearing; Finally, the Animas is starting to shape up. With clearing waters and dropping flows, expect fish to be looking up to caddis in the afternoons and evenings. If no risers abound, huck some meat.
San Juan River (CO): 782 cfs, falling quick; Flows are dropping quick and the upper SJ is great for float fishing…for now. The floating won’t last long so get out there.
Piedra River: 539 cfs, dropping quick; The Piedra is dropping and fishing is heating up fast. Look for smaller stones, drakes, and caddis. Fish will be out in the riffles and runs.
Los Pinos River: 790 below dam, being dropped; Flows are dropping and fishing will be picking up below the dam. Classic nymph rigs are in order but look for hatches of stones and caddis to possibly bring fish to the surface.
Florida River: 195 cfs above, 224 below dam, falling; Better with every day. Above Lemon, the fishing will still be tough with high, cold water. Below, if you have access to some water on the Florida, fishing will be pretty great. Look for hatches of caddis and little olive stones.
Dolores River below McPhee: 558 cfs, dropping; Flows are being dropped and we should see the lower D to hit summer flows of 80 cfs next week. These falling flows will really get fish moving and eating. Wade fishing will be going strong. Hoppers and PMDs will be the summer ticket.
Dolores River above McPhee: 1,090 cfs, slowly falling; With falling flows, fishing will get better with every day. Watch for stones and caddis to be out and about. If no action on top, a dry dropper with attractor bugs will be a good go-to.
Rio Grande (30 mile/Wagon Wheel): 775 cfs at 30 Mile, 1,710 at Wagon Wheel Gap; Rio prime time is now. We just saw great hatches of Salmonflies, but golden stones and caddis are still out and about. Drakes and PMDs are on the horizon as well.
Mountain Creeks: dropping; The fishing on our high country creeks is getting better every single day. Flows are falling and fish are looking up. Everything except the highest elevation lakes are open for business.
San Miguel: 948 cfs, falling; Flows on the San Miguel are falling and the fishing will get better every day. Nymph rigs and dry/dropper setups will be your ticket to success. Look for hatches of stones and caddis.
Lakes/Ponds: Most local lakes are iced off and ready to fish. Very high, backcountry lakes may still have some ice. Fishing is great for smallmouth and trout. Pike fishing is slowing down, but some are still being caught. Navajo is open, Totten and Puett will be fishable as well. Lemon and Vallecito are also open. Electra is open. Carp fishing is really good.
