Durango battles Fruita for Top Adventure Town

Riders on the Citizens Race of the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic in May race the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train through the Animas Valley. The train and the annual Iron Horse Bicycle Classic are among Durango’s attractions.

Durango is battling Fruita for first place in Elevation Outdoors Magazine’s 2016 Colorado Top Adventure Town contest.

On Wednesday afternoon, Fruita was slightly ahead, with 50.5 percent of the vote. The final round of voting ends Monday.

Forty eight towns competed in the first three rounds. Durango and Fruita are in the “large towns” segment of the finalists, with more than 8,600 residents.

Winners will be featured in Elevation Outdoors’ November issue. Voters can enter to win a pair of Salomon Speedcross 4 trail running shoes.
