The Durango Bird Club will host a presentation: breeding biology and populations of Brown-headed Cowbirds and their hosts by Drs. Catherine and Joseph Ortegaat, 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Education and Business Hall, Room 055, at Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive.
The talk is open to the public.
Like them or hate them, Brown-headed Cowbirds are native songbirds that are a natural part of the ecosystem. They depend on other birds (their hosts) to raise their young, which is a risky business, especially when their host populations are in significant decline.
