A rough night offensively doomed the Demons.
The Durango High School boys basketball team fell to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in Class 4A/5A Southwestern League play with a 58-38 road loss at Fruita Monument on Friday.
The Wildcats (7-9, 2-1 SWL) led by as many as 31 points and easily controlled play.
“We just didn’t hit shots. That was the moral of the story,” DHS head coach Alan Batiste said. “The boys did an excellent job moving the ball and doing everything we asked for all week. We had open shots and just didn’t hit them.”
DHS senior post player Orion Clay took an elbow in the game and had concussion-like symptoms. His status for Saturday’s game against Montrose is in question until the team sees how he feels after seeing a trainer.
Lawrence Mayberry led the Demons in scoring with nine points on 3-for-3 shooting from behind the 3-point line.
“Lawrence had a great game for us for the second game in a row,” Batiste said.
Durango will try to get its offense going against rival Montrose on Saturday.
“It’s a chance for guys to step up,” Batiste said.
