Durango boys lacrosse opens with loss in Utah

11 fouls make it hard for Durango lacrosse to keep pace

The Durango Demons didn’t get off to the start it wanted to begin the boys lacrosse season.

Playing the first of two games in Utah to begin the campaign, Durango High School fell 13-5 to Riverton, a schoil north of Provo.

“It’s never easy to roll of the bus after seven hours to play a game,” DHS head coach John Robinette said. “I would’ve liked to see us do better, but we were in a hole early.”

Penalties killed the Demons, as they were whistled for 11 in the match. Riverton scored five goals while the Demons were down a man.

DHS (0-1) went down 3-0 early and trailed 5-2 at halftime.

Riverton (2-2) pumped 30 shots on goal, and Andrew Brown made 17 saves for the Demons in a performance Robinette called a lone bright spot.

Kyle Robinette scored four of the Demons’ goals. He also had a team-high nine groundballs and won 6-of-11 faceoffs.

Jackson Steigelman had the other goal and also recorded one assist.

Durango will look for a weekend split Saturday against Lehi, another Utah foe.

“I’m hoping we can correct some mistakes and stay out of the penalty box and come away from the weekend with a split,” coach Robinette said.
