Durango boys soccer smashes Grand Junction Central in league opener

Fullington goes off with 4 goals, 2 assists

Logan Fullington had a match to remember Tuesday.

The Durango High School senior scored four goals and had two assists in the Demons’ 10-1 win in the 5A/4A Southwestern League boys soccer opener Tuesday at Grand Junction Central (0-2-1).

Fullington scored twice in each half and also had an assist in each half of the win.

Braden Lyons, a junior forward, scored the Demons’ first two goals of the night. The first was assisted by Rensler Beasley, and the second was assisted by Fullington. Then, Fullington scored his first of the night unassisted. He scored again moments later with an assist from Andrew Saddler.

Durango’s final goal of the first half came from Leland Heinicke. The junior was assisted by fellow junior Gavin Deffenbaugh.

DHS (4-0, 1-0 SWL) continued the onslaught in the second half. Fullington assisted Beasley to get the scoring going, and then Beasley returned the favor with an assist to Fullington for another goal. Fullington capped off his goal scoring with an assist from Jack Beattie, who was involved in the Demons’ final three goals.

Beattie assisted Tristen Lawson for the Demons’ ninth goal, and then Beattie scored with an assist from Beasley to round out the team’s scoring.

Third-ranked DHS will play at 5 p.m. Friday in a non-league game at Evergreen.
