Durango calls for community input on strategic plan

Plan offers short-, long-term guide for city
The city of Durango will ask the community for input on its strategic plan during a virtual meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The city of Durango is calling on the public to provide input on its 2021 strategic planning process.

During a virtual community meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday, City Council members will hear from stakeholders, like local economic, business and education groups, about their 2021 goals before inviting the public to provide input on their top priorities.

The strategic plan is one of the city’s most important projects in 2021, said City Councilor Kim Baxter.

One goal of the plan is to help the city evaluate its finances and spot areas that need attention both in the short and long term, she said. That includes the city’s response to the economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, its fund balances, capital improvement programs and more.

“It would be really important to take that strategic plan and just go through our budget again to make sure that we’re on track with what we want to be doing,” Baxter said.

The city anticipates completing the plan in late spring.

The meeting will be held on the Zoom web conferencing platform. Interested community members can join the meeting Tuesday by going to https://durangogov.org/zoom.
