The Durango City Council on Tuesday officially signed off on the appointment of Tony Vicari as director of the Durango-La Plata County Airport.

Vicari served nine months as interim director of the airport after former director Kip Turner took a job in Grand Junction last summer.

Vicari started at DRO in March 2014, and prior to that, he worked in Michigan.

He will be paid $110,000 a year, according to city records.

Vicari, 29, has a bachelor’s degree in aviation science and administration from Western Michigan University’s College of Aviation.

All of the councilors praised Vicari’s leadership since Turner’s departure and his ability to present information clearly.

“You have been able to present yourself with grace and poise and technical expertise,” Mayor Christina Rinderle said.
