As of Monday, Durango officially beat out Mammoth Lakes, California, in the first round of voting in Outside magazine’s 64-city bracket for the best town in America.
Though Durango, seeded 14, has now officially proven itself better than Mammoth Lakes, seeded 3 – taking 9,924 votes to Mammoth Lake’s 6,124 – the tournament only gets harder from here.
In round two, Durango’s tiny 17,000 faces off against a mighty competitor, Anchorage, Alaska, which boasts a population of more than 300,000.
Voting closes Saturday. If we advance to round three, we’ll face either Boulder or Santa Barbara, California.
