Durango closer to being America’s best town

Boasting a lengthy list of things to do – inside and outside – Durango is in the running to be named best town in America by Outside magazine.

As of Monday, Durango officially beat out Mammoth Lakes, California, in the first round of voting in Outside magazine’s 64-city bracket for the best town in America.

Though Durango, seeded 14, has now officially proven itself better than Mammoth Lakes, seeded 3 – taking 9,924 votes to Mammoth Lake’s 6,124 – the tournament only gets harder from here.

In round two, Durango’s tiny 17,000 faces off against a mighty competitor, Anchorage, Alaska, which boasts a population of more than 300,000.

Voting closes Saturday. If we advance to round three, we’ll face either Boulder or Santa Barbara, California.
