“Council votes ‘No’ on retail marijuana” – This was the headline in the Golden Transcript, Golden’s newspaper, on June 12. My wife and I were in that city, where the Ride the Rockies tour ended. The story says, “Council unanimously decided to prohibit all recreational marijuana shops, which means business will have to go elsewhere.
“Council members commented that losing Golden’s family-friendly identity to pot shops just wasn’t worth the city’s reputation. They also stated the law’s ambiguity and constant modifications made them hesitant to allow retail marijuana. Councilor Pamela Gould said, ‘I don’t want us to spend our small-town resources, time and money on creating or enforcing regulations dealing with this issue.’”
Wow, what a novel idea. Like the city of Golden, Durango’s City Council could actually say “no” to drugs and “yes” to family.
