Durango Devo announced the appointment of its new executive director, Nate Greason. Greason has a background in outdoor education, management consulting and nonprofit leadership to help advance Devo’s mission to get more kids on bikes in 2025.
Greason rolled into the Devo world as a coach last spring and immediately caught Devo’s attention with his rapport with young riders and his obvious passion for adventure, demonstrated by his total willingness to blindly follow a band of rowdy second grade riders through the infamous Tunnels of Doom.
“From the first interview until the final board meeting, it was unanimous that Nate would be our next executive director,” Durango Devo Board Chair Rick O’Block said. “We are grateful for all the wonderful things that Levi did for Devo, and are equally excited for the next chapter with Nate.”
Greason was born and raised on Bainbridge Island, Washington, and coming from a family of adventurers, Nate grew up exploring in the woods with his sister, Mo, and building homemade bike jumps of questionable structural soundness.
He lived in Massachusetts, Kentucky and Utah before settling in Durango in early 2024 so that his partner (and Devo co-coach) Annie could pursue a role with Durango’s Adaptive Sports Association.
A graduate of Dartmouth College, Greason has worked in research and analysis, served as finance director for a Congressional campaign, and led Trip Operations and Risk Management for a youth outdoor travel company.
“It has been great getting to know Nate over the past year as he has enmeshed himself into the Devo community,” said Levi Kurlander, outgoing executive director. “Even early on when Nate first started coaching with us, it became apparent to me how his experience, perspective and work ethic were already contributing to Devo’s success. Now, as ED, I’m excited to see Nate usher in a new period of improvement and growth for Devo.”
In addition to his wealth of professional experience, Greason is an avid bikepacker and backcountry skier, an outdoor advocate, a Durango Devo junior coach, and an active member of La Plata County Search and Rescue. He likes to scour Facebook Marketplace for good finds and listen to Blink 182 on repeat to get pumped up for a big run or ride.
“As a Durango cyclist and a Devo coach, I’ve seen firsthand the ‘Devo magic’ that this organization offers its participants and our community,” Greason said. “Stepping in to fill Levi’s massive (bike) shoes is an honor as a thrill; I am looking forward to what lies ahead and excited by the chance to be a part of Devo’s future.”
