Durango dials Sandia Prep’s number

Demons’ boys lacrosse team hangs another 21-spot on the Sundevils

It’s safe to say Durango High School boys lacrosse has Sandia Prep’s number.

DHS defeated Sandia Prep 21-0 on Saturday at DHS Stadium to even its overall record at 6-6, and the Demons have beaten the Sundevils by an aggregate 42-3 in two victories this season.

“The good thing is, we got a lot of guys in,” said DHS head coach John Robinette, who coached the varsity to their fifth consecutive victory, then drove to Grand Junction to work with Durango’s youth lacrosse program.

Robinette played the regulars for the first half, then started filtering in junior varsity players.

DHS had 14 different goal scorers and 14 of its 21 goals were assisted.

“We just outmanned them,” Robinette said.

And speaking of out ...

Outshot: 56-4.

Outgroundball: 44-8.

Outfaceoff: 20-5.

Wesley Komick led the Demons with six goals and two assists, and Liam Millar had a hat trick and five assists.

With three games left on their regular-season schedule, the Demons now are three games away from making Cooper Stowers’ prediction from a fortnight ago come true: win out.

“It’s out there, and that’s the goal,” Robinette said.

DHS will play at Telluride at 4 p.m. Tuesday, then will host Eagle Valley and Glenwood Springs next weekend to finish its regular season.
