Four local environmental advocates will share stories about how personal choices on the local level can support the health of our planet.
The event will be held at 6 p.m. at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
Speakers include:
Regina Lopez-Whiteskunk, a member of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and an advocate for animals and the environment. Lopez-Whiteskunk is a former co-chairwoman of the Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition and a Ute Mountain Ute Tribe council member. She currently serves on the Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs.
Imogen Ainsworth, sustainability coordinator for the city of Durango. Through her work, she aims to foster collaborative actions that promote the responsible use of resources, enhance quality of life and help maintain the unique character of Durango for the benefit of present and future generations.
Nic Borst, owner and operations manager of Durango Cannabis Co., who uses sustainable methods in his company. Borst focuses on water conservation, soil recycling and trying to use as little energy as possible.
Shelley Silbert, director of Great Old Broads for Wilderness. She joined Broads in 2012, bringing 20 years of experience in the fields of conservation and sustainability. From 1994 to 2003, she directed The Nature Conservancy’s Northern Arizona Program, managing three nature preserves and working on conservation priorities, ecological restoration, regional planning and public open space campaigns.Season 4 of Durango Diaries will continue through November at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at the Durango library. Nov. 6: Photography. Three photographers will share the stories behind their favorite photographs and how they work to create the perfect frame. Storytellers include portrait and wedding photographer Allison Ragsdale, nature photographer Frank Comisar and Herald photographer Jerry McBride.
Nov. 20: Forever young. As our population ages, no one seems to be slowing down. Three retirees who are still pursuing active lifestyles will share their stories. Speakers include National Senior Games swimmer Kathy Kronwall, 82; Pilates instructor Diane Legner, 80; and skiing expert Major Lefebvre, 70.
