The Durango Herald’s storytelling series, Durango Diaries, will wrap up its second season next week with two events on the road.
The topic for both events will be the “Future of Agriculture.”
The first event will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Florida Grange, 656 Colorado Highway 172.
Speakers will be:
Daniel and Hana Fullmer, who are local farmers. Daniel started Tierra Vida Farm in 2015 after working on various farms and learning from expert farmers. In 2017, Hana began helping run the farm. Before farming, she worked as a practicing functional medicine nutritionist. J. Paul Brown has been a lifelong rancher and is well-known for his sheep that are herded through Bayfield twice a year. He has held numerous public offices, including serving as a state representative. Kate Greenberg is the Western Program director for National Young Farmers Coalition, where she organizes young farmers, advocates for supportive policy and promotes land, water and climate stewardship.A second event will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Marvel Grange, 2147 County Road 133 in Hesperus.
The Fullmers and Brown will be storytellers, and will be joined by Davin Montoya.
Montoya was born with agriculture in his blood and a deep connection to the land. He has spent his career growing his cow herd and ranch. Montoya has also served on many boards and organizations, including ditch companies, agricultural boards, church councils and the boards of directors for the La Plata County Fair, La Plata Electric Association and Tri-State Generation and Transmission.
