A duo of Demons dotted the All-Southwestern League softball selections.
Pitcher Lexy Vidunas and pitcher/infielder Augusta Brockus landed on the all-conference team, with Vidunas picking up first-team honors and Brockus second-team accolades for the Demons.
Vidunas, a junior, went 6-4 in the circle for the Demons with a 3.03 earned-run average. She struck out 87 against just 20 walks and allowed a total of 77 hits in 67 innings pitched.
Offensively, Vidunas led the team (minimum 20 at-bats) with a .433 batting average. She drove in eight runs, scored 23 times and had 26 hits.
Brockus compiled a 4.95 ERA and a 3-6 record in her duties as a pitcher, throwing 46 2/3 innings and striking out 34 while walking just 14 and allowing 66 hits.
The junior hit .379 at the plate in 66 at-bats, driving in 13 runs and scoring 16 times while racking up a total of 25 hits.
Elisha Jahnke, a senior shortstop and pitcher for Grand Junction, earned SWL Player of the Year honors. Jahnke was 13-6 for the Tigers, throwing 17 complete games in 18 starts. The senior had a 3.04 ERA and racked up an impressive 99 strikeouts against just 26 walks in 126 2/3 innings pitched for Grand Junction.
At the plate, Jahnke hit .405 with 22 RBIs and eight doubles in her 30 total hits.
Grand Junction’s Adam Diaz and Grand Junction Central’s Scott Else split the Coach of the Year award.
Diaz led the Tigers to a 17-6 record and a trip to the postseason. Else, meanwhile, piloted the Warriors to a 12-9 mark and a playoff berth.
Durango rallied back from a 2-7 start to the season to finish 9-10 overall under first-year head coach Mike Cioppa, narrowly missing out on a playoff berth for the second consecutive season after breaking through for a postseason bid two seasons ago.
