Pick up some tips and tricks of fly fishing this weekend. (Jerry McBride/Durango Herald file)

Need to brush up on your fly fishing skills? From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, you’ll have your chance during “Learn from the Pros,” offered by 5 Rivers Chapter of Trout Unlimited.

The demonstration will be led by Cole Glenn, the new owner of the San Juan Angler and Greg Furda. It will be held on the Animas at what most people know as the “Hatchery Hole,” located just east of the Huck Finn Pond.

Glenn and Furda will review rigging techniques, fly selection and wading strategies for winter fishing that can be productive at times and always rewarding for the solitude.

Participants are asked to dress accordingly and bring their gear to try out some of the tips and tricks after the demo. One thing to note for this “winter fishing” episode is parking: New regulations prohibit parking on the small, lower lot down the ramp from 17th Street and the library. Parking is still available at the main Colorado Parks and Wildlife lot off Main Avenue and the Rotary Park lot off 15th Street.

The event is free, but participants are asked to sign up so organizers know how many people to expect: http://tinyurl.com/3wppk3p4.
