Highlight of the week

Fort Lewis College graduate Jessa Rae Growing Thunder will give two art demonstrations Feb. 22 and 23 on campus, 1000 Rim Drive.

The first demonstration, Natural Dyes for Quills, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Native American Center. The second demonstration, Quillwork & Beadwork, will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Student Union Ballroom. Both are free.

Growing Thunder comes from the Fort Peck and Assiniboine Sioux tribes of Poplar, Montana. She is a third-generation beadwork and quillwork artist whose work has been shown in multiple museums, including the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, the Heard Museum and the Joslyn Art Museum. Growing Thunder is a Great Plains tribal art historian and has consulted for numerous institutions such as the Autry Museum of the American West, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Baltimore Art Museum.
