“Bye Bye Birdie: The Musical”will open at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave.
The book, “Bye Bye Birdie” by Michael Stewart, is brought to life with music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Lee Adams. It is the loving sendup of the 1950s, small-town America, teenagers and rock ’n’ roll. Teen heartthrob Conrad Birdie has been drafted, so he chooses All-American girl Kim MacAfee for a very public farewell kiss.
The show will run through Sept. 3.
Tickets cost $15 for students and $25 for general admission, and are available online..
