Well, folks, we made it through another weird year: We had such high hopes for 2021, and while it didn’t completely disappoint, maybe 2022 will be better? So, if you’re looking to send 2021 off in style, there will be plenty of New Year’s Eve parties in and around Durango, including Aria Drops the Ball, which kicks off at 8 p.m. Friday at The Garage Billiards and Music Hall, 121 W. Eighth St. Hosted by Aria PettyOne, the evening will feature performances by local performers, including: Aluna Del Rey, Da VaiVai, Dutch Dangle, Electra Fie, Electrix Cute and Vivica Validation. This party is for those 21 and older.

Wednesday, Dec. 29

Ski-up Beer Tasting with Ska Brewing, 12-2 p.m., Purgatory Resort, 1 Skier Place.

Whiskey Tour & Cocktail Night, 5-6:15 p.m., Purgatory Resort, 1 Skier Place.

Thursday, Dec. 30

Geeks Who Drink, 8:15 p.m., The Roost, 128 E. College Drive.

Friday, Dec. 31

Durango Resolution Run, 3-4 p.m., Three Springs Community Area, 1010 Three Springs Blvd. 5K run to help benefit Durango High School athletics and activities. Cost: $25-$35.

Greg Ryan: Improv Instrumental Live Music, 3-5 p.m., Mountain Monk Coffee, 558 Main Ave.

Lacey Black, 5-8 p.m., Lone Spur Cafe, 619 Main Ave.

Roaring ’20s New Year’s Eve Party, all evening, Union Social House, 3062 Main Ave. $40 per person. Music and dancing, appetizers, Prohibition-style drinks, fabulous flapper outfits and a champagne countdown.

New Year’s Eve with Wild Country Band, 6 p.m., Weminuche Woodfire Grill, 18044 County Road 501, Bayfield.

New Year’s Eve Masquerade, 6 p.m., Derailed Pour House, 725 Main Ave. VIP tickets are on sale for $225 and include a table, champagne, cheese board, NYE swag, goody bag, balloon drop and a champagne toast at midnight. General admission tickets are also available for $50 but do not guarantee seating. Call 247-5440 to reserve seating for large groups.

Aria Drops the Ball, doors open at 8 p.m., show starts at 9:30 p.m., The Garage Billiards and Music Hall, 121 W. Eighth St., $10 cover, 21 and older.

Durango Tire Fire, 8 p.m., The Powerhouse Science Center, 1295 Camino del Rio. $25 presale, $35 at the door. Must be 18 or older. Dress-up theme is pop and rock stars.

IllumiNAUGHTY NYE with Secret Circus Society, Profetic Calaveras and DJ Vanny Vance, 9:30 p.m., Animas City Theatre, 128 E. College Drive. $45 early bird general admission standing room; $60 door general admission standing room; $100 VIP Crow’s Nest. An evening with circus, burlesque and a midnight dance party. Community Day, 9-11 a.m., The Powerhouse, 1333 Camino del Rio. Free admission. Enjoy the newest exhibit “Living with Wolves” (happens every first Wednesday of the month).

Home-schooler’s day to learn about energy transfer, 12-2 p.m., The Powerhouse, 1333 Camino del Rio. Open to grades K-5. Register at http://powsci.org/.

Friday, Jan. 7

Rambling Readers, 10-11 a.m., the gate to Saul’s Creek just off Highway 160 in Bayfield. Walk and spend an hour discussing favorite reads. Call the library at 884.2222 ext. 1 for directions to the meeting spot.

Night Sky Party, 5 p.m. Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave. This party’s focus will be on Mercury, starting with an indoor program and activity then moving outside for telescope viewing.

Saturday, Jan. 8

Animas Museum Second Saturday Seminar Series, 1p.m., virtual via Zoom. Dr. John Boyd will present his 2-part talk "The Bankers of St Mark's". Registration is required at http://animasmuseum.org/events.html.

Sierra Nevada Yeti Cooler Giveaway, 3-4 p.m., 1 Skier Place.
