Durango Food Bank has implemented several changes to its policy and food distribution procedures. These modifications will remain in place throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, as long as they are able to safely continue.
These changes have been made to decrease human contact (and exposure) while also responsibly providing food relief in line with their mission to our food insecure neighbors.
No client referrals or paperwork is required ahead of visit. They will take minimal information once at the Food Bank.
Clients may pick up two to three times per month, as needed. Clients will not be receiving much (if any) perishable foods.
Food will be distributed in a drive-up fashion. Clients will not get out of their vehicles and will be providing minimal household information once here.
Home deliveries will be made to at-risk individuals or those without transportation.
Services will not be providing services to clients who are on food or just walk up. These clients may call and leave their contact information and staff will reach out to them as soon as they are able to deliver food to their homes. They will be required to take the food in to their homes, as it will be delivered to their doors and the 6-feet rule will be enforced.
In an effort to reduce contact, the food bank is working with a small group of three specific volunteers. As a result, they will be open for drive-up food distribution only one day per week. Clients may pick up from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays.
Each vehicle will be processed in two minutes or less. The food bank will make modifications as needed and do their best to ensure that community members have access to food needed to shelter in place from week to week.
