This one was worth the way. After Tuesday’s Colorado High School Activities Association Class 4A girls basketball state tournament game was postponed because of weather, Tayler Dossey and No. 28 Durango High School (11-12) will host No. 37 Falcon (9-14) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the DHS gymnasium. The winner will face two-time defending state champion and fifth-seeded Evergreen in the second round. Dossey, the Demons’ senior captain, has led the Demons in with 9.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this season.
Danielle Lee and the Durango defense will try to slow Falcon’s Hannah Burg and Kilee Wood. Burg has averaged 14.6 points per game, while Wood has put up an average of 9.4 points. Falcon High will depart at 4 a.m. Wednesday from east of Colorado Springs. The team has elected to travel up to Interstate 70 through Grand Junction, down to Moab and over to Durango instead of taking U.S. Highway 160 over Wolf Creek Pass. The new route will span 585 miles and take roughly 10 hours instead of the standard 332-mile, six-hour route on U.S. 160.
