The latest and greatest in sports equipment is near the top of every high school athlete’s list this time of year, and the Durango High School athletes got their wish this season.
Beginning this spring, DHS will be one of a handful of schools in the state to have acquired a sponsorship with sports apparel and equipment giant Adidas. The DHS girls lacrosse team will be the first to wear the new uniforms this spring.
“Durango High School is thrilled to enter a partnership with Adidas for many reasons,” Durango High School Director of Athletics Adam Bright said in a phone interview with The Durango Herald. “They continue to be world-class leaders in athletic apparel technology and creativity. The partnership will allow us to provide our student-athletes, coaches and staff the highest quality apparel and equipment. This is another important milestone in the evolution of Durango High School athletics.”
According to Bright, the Demons are one of only two Colorado high schools partnering with Adidas. The deal allows the Demons’ players and coaches access to the same gear as Arizona State, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Miami, Mississippi State, Nebraska, North Carolina State, Texas A&M, and UCLA, which all have a top-tier, all-sport partnership agreement.
Adidas is also the official uniform, footwear and apparel provider for more than 100 collegiate programs and has marketing agreements with the NBA, NFL, MLB and MLS.
“It really came down to the fact that we’re getting superior Adidas products at a cheaper price than the competitors offer,” Bright said. “Adidas recognizes what all of us in Demon Country already know – there is real value in DHS, our student-athletes and the success we will continue to have in the future.”
The new sponsorship comes in the midst of what is still an ongoing, multi-million dollar renovation to the DHS football stadium.
“Corporate and business sponsorship and support are essential to our schools in Western Colorado and we depend on such partnerships to create quality opportunities for our scholar athletes,” Durango High School Principal Jon Hoerl said in a news release.
“With a great new stadium in progress, Adidas saw Durango High School as a perfect partner school.”
